D’ur Acell awoke in a daze, roused from unconsciousness by the very ground beneath him shaking. He wondered if dead planets could even have earthquakes. It was then he noticed 250 pounds of Ausgardian-armoured Equinite causing the tremors beneath him by smashing his indestructible baseball bat into the face of the being D’ur presumed had knocked him unconscious. He regained his feet and staggered a few steps before gaining his balance. His first instinct was to join Gary in his battle, but his Yellow Flashlight training took over when he saw a lone Parody Cultist seemingly operating the controls for the machine the Avawarriors had been protecting. The mission objective was to discover what the Parody Master needed with that machine. While it pained him to leave Gary to fight alone, D’ur knew what he had to do. Gathering his will, he floated towards the machine, being careful to skirt the battle between Gary and Lord War. In his weakened condition he doubted he’d last long if he were to get involved. Before he could reach the machine he spotted a familiar green form lying on the ground. D’ur gasped as he saw the hole in Gamona’s chest, blood still oozing from the wound. She wasn’t moving, wasn’t breathing. D’ur silently offered up a prayer to his world’s god, Cop’er T’p, that her fiery warrior soul would finally know peace. He then set his sight once again upon the machine. D’ur swatted the Parody Cultist away from the machine with a flick of his Power Bracelet. He looked over the controls, trying to figure out what the controls were meant to do. “Bracelet, I need a diagnostic of this machine. What does it do?” D’ur commanded his Power Bracelet. Yellow light flowed from his Bracelet into the console, seeking out its secrets. D’ur gasped as he realized what the machine was meant to do. Gary and Lord War were a blur of motion, their weapons singing as they sliced the air. The force from their blows rocked the ground beneath their feet, but neither warrior lost their footing. “Now this is what I came looking for!” crowed Lord War. “The bards will sing of my triumph this day Gamma Ray Gary, but I promise you this, it will be a song to be remembered!” Gary surged forward to slam his armoured forehead into Lord War’s. “This battle is long from over villain! Feel the fury and might of Gamma Ray Gary!” Gary pushed off of Lord War and pointed Ljouis at his chest. “Feel the power of Ausgard!!” Lightning lanced from Ljouis and impacted Lord War’s chestplate. The god staggered back, then raised his own weapon at Gary. “Two can play that game,” he sneered. From the tip of his sword poured an angry red energy blast which struck Gary full force. The Equinite soared through the air before impacting with the bedrock that had risen behind him earlier in the battle. Gary managed to parry the next blast with Ljouis before returning fire. Lord War similarly caught the lightning on the broad side of his blade. While he did this though he failed to notice Gary seize up the boulder behind him. It was only with a desperate swing of his sword that he cleaved the missile before it could strike him. Gary hammered into Lord War again, striking the spot where his lightning had left a charred black mark on his chestplate. The god of war gasped as his armour was penetrated. Energy exploded from Lord War as he released a widespread blast from his eyes. Gary’s cape caught fire and his forearm burned where it had shielded his eyes from the onslaught. He ignored the pyre on his back and leapt to battle again. The flame on his cloak could not match the fire in his eyes. “There has to be a way to shut this thing down,” D’ur murmured to himself as he worked the controls, his Bracelet giving him an intuitive understanding of what he was doing. “There is no way,” a voice said from behind him. He whirled around to see a bleeding and battered Gamona. “Gamona! I thought you were dead!” D’ur almost hugged her before realizing that in addition to the gross blood stain he’d get from Gamona’s chest wound she would also probably kill him just for attempting the embrace. “I long ago had my internal organs rearranged so my opponents would not know where best to strike,” Gamona offered in explanation. “Well,” D’ur said as he formed a bandage with his Bracelet, “that’s disturbing and disgusting all at once.” The bandage fizzled out of existence when it came into contact with the green skinned assassin. “Whoops, sorry.” “It will heal,” she said. “Now what was that about not stopping this machine?” D’ur asked. Gamona’s fingers danced over the controls as she confirmed her suspicions. “It has been set to activate, and there is no stopping it. The Parody Master is too sure of himself to bother with such things as failsafes.” Gamona ignored the weakness in her knees as she tried to maintain her façade of calm. D’ur removed his shirt and began to tear it into bandages for Gamona. “So when this thing blows…” “The Parody Master will have created his newest Doomwraith.” “From the souls of the most powerful race of beings in the universe,” breathed D’ur. Gary and Lord War stood apart from each other, both staring the other down. The last of Gary’s cape had burned away, and Lord War had removed the tatters that remained of his and tossed it aside. “You have done well this day, Gamma Ray Gary,” spoke Lord War. “There is no shame in your inevitable defeat.” “You talk bravely for one who bears so many wounds,” answered Gary. “Wounds inflicted by me.” “Oh, these?” Lord War looked down at the bruises and scorches that marred his body. With a shrug of his shoulders they disappeared. Even his cape returned, completely unblemished. “I draw my power from conflict, Equinite, and with the Parody Master waging war on the earth my power is great indeed. How can you hope to stand up to me?” Gary took stock of his own wounds, which were plentiful. “I began this quest to find the Parody Master and take revenge for the slaughter of my people. My motives were ill considered and I have paid for those mistakes.” Gary stood tall as he continued. “I fight now for the good of all innocents in this universe, for those that want to live in peace, free from the tyranny of those like you and your master. They need a champion.” “It seems to me you were a champion once before, Gamma Ray Gary. Were you not charged with the safety of your people? And where are they now? They lie dead, on a barren piece of rock with no one but yourself to mourn them. Do you truly think you can eclipse such a failure with another today?” Lord War looked smugly upon the battered warrior before him. “They need a champion,” Gary repeated, ignoring Lord War’s taunts. “And thanks to the Parody Master I have a hole in my schedule.” Gary tensed up to renew his attack, but before launching his offensive he spoke once more. “A hole I intend to fill with your dead body. Have at thee!” To be concluded! ![]() |
